Guam became the first U.S. Territory on April 11, 1898! It’s named for the CHamoru word guaha, meaning “to have,” but you can also call it Tånó y CHamoru (“Land of the CHamoru”)! Its capital is Hagåtña, and its largest village is Dededo! Guam’s motto is “Where America’s Day Begins!” This territory is famous for Guam National Wildlife Refuge, War in the Pacific National Historical Park, and the world’s largest Kmart!
