The naming of Seven Wonders began with the Greek conquest of much of the Mediterranean and Middle East, which allowed Greek citizens to travel at leisure to new places. Some writers, like Antipater of Sidon, recorded the sights that stirred them most. While only one of these Wonders, the Pyramids of Giza, still stands, the rest have since fallen into memory! So, in 2000, a popularity poll was launched across the world to find seven new Wonders! The results gave us the following new Wonders of the World:
