Burgos became a province of Spain on November 20, 1833 and is part of the autonomous community of Castilla y León! It’s named for its characteristic walled villages (Gothic “baurgs”)! Its capital and largest city is Burgos! This province is famous for the Burgos Cathedral, archaeological site of Atapuerca, Human Evolution Museum, the monasteries of Cartuja de Miraflores & Santo Domingo de Silos, and a stretch of El Camino de Santiago de Compostela!
