Inyo County, California was established in 1866 and named for a Shoshone leader named Inyo whose tribe lived in the Sierras. Its county seat is Independence, and its fair is held in Bishop and shared with Mono and Alpine counties! You might recognize Death Valley National Park, Manzanar National Historic Site, Mount Whitney, and the Bristlecone Forest, which are located in this county!
