La Rioja became a province of Spain on March 19, 1812 and an autonomous community on August 16, 1982! It’s named for the Oja River (El Rio Oja) which runs through this province! Its capital and largest city is Logroño! This province/autonomous community is famous for its wines, the chicken cathedral of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, the concatedral de Santa Maria la Redonda, and a stretch of El Camino de Santiago de Compostela!
