Mono County, California was established in 1861 and named for Mono Lake, which was named for a Paiute tribe called the Monache! Monache is a Yokut word for “fly eaters!” Its county seat is Bridgeport, and its fair is held in Bishop and shared with Inyo and Alpine counties! You might recognize Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes, and Bodie Ghost Town, which are located in this county!
