Palencia became a province of Spain on November 20, 1833 and is part of the autonomous community of Castilla y León! It was named Pallantia by the Romans, maybe for the Celtic palla (plain)! Its capital and largest city is Palencia! This province is famous for the Valencia cathedral, Church of San Martín de Frómista, town of La Olmeda, Canal de Castilla, and a stretch of El Camino de Santiago de Compostela!
