Saratoga County, New York was established in 1791 and named from the Mohawk word Se-rach-ta-gue, which means “the hillside country of the quiet river,” or something like that! Its county seat is Ballston Spa, and its fair is also held in Ballston Spa! You might recognize Saratoga National Historical Park, the Saratoga Monument, Saratoga Spa State Park, and Petrified Sea Gardens, which are located in this county!
