Siskiyou County, California was established on March 22, 1852 and named for the Siskiyou Mountains, which may take their name from the Chinook word for “bob-tailed horse” or the French term Six Cailloux, or “six stones!” Its county seat is Yreka, and its fair is also held in Yreka! You might recognize Mount Shasta and a large chunk of Lava Beds National Monument, which are located in this county!
