Changdeokgung Palace!

Changdeokgung
What is it? Changdeokgung (창덕궁) was the second of the Five Grand Palaces of the Joseon Dynasty!
What makes it historical? Built by King Taejong in 1405, Changdeokgung was the eastern balancing point to Gyeongbokgung in the west! After it was burned to the ground by the Japanese in 1592, it was restored to its current state in 1610, when it became the main palace of the Korean monarchy for 270 years!

The complex is laid out in harmony with the topography of the area and includes a spectacular Secret Garden, called Huwon, out back, which takes strong advantage of this approach! Out in this back garden, the kings and queens of Korea would practice their hands at agriculture and sericulture (the cultivation of silkworms)!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
