The Heritage House!

Heritage House
Landmark #664 Los Angeles County Visited: August 13, 2011 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A tiny, heavily guarded house in the heart of Compton!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: As originally built in 1869 by A. R. Loomis, the house had only two rooms, but other rooms were added by subsequent occupants. It was marked as the ‘Oldest House in Compton’ in 1955. In 1957, it was purchased by the city and moved from 209 South Acacia Street to its present site. It has been restored, refurnished, and renamed by the citizens of Compton as a tribute to early settlers of the community.

OTHER TIDBITS: That pretty well sums it up!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Donate to the Native Daughters of the Golden West!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
Where is this place? LISTED DIRECTIONS:
NW corner of Willowbrook Ave and Myrrh St
Compton, CA 90220

ANNOTATIONS:
Yup! That’s correct!

From Los Angeles: ~17mi (28km) — 0.3hrs
From Sacramento: ~401mi (646km) — 6.7hrs
From San Diego: ~115mi (186km) — 2hrs
From San Francisco: ~399mi (643km) — 6.7hrs

When should I go? It was closed, locked, and wired shut when I visited, and I can’t find any information on visiting the museum itself, if it is, in fact, a museum at all!
