Old Lobero Theatre!

Old Lobero Theatre
Landmark #361 Santa Barbara County Visited: Sept. 4, 2011 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? The Old Lobero Theatre is still putting on shows!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: José Lobero opened the region’s first legitimate theatre on this site on February 22, 1873. For many years the old theatre was the center of social life in Santa Barbara. A new Lobero Theatre, opened in 1924 on the same site, continues to serve the cultural interests of the area.

OTHER TIDBITS: Not only is it the region’s first theatre; it’s also the oldest continuously operating theatre in California!

  1. The plaque has been removed. The theater does not reply to questions about it.
