Yorba-Slaughter Adobe!

Yorba-Slaughter Adobe
Landmark #191 San Bernardino County Visited: February 4, 2012 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? The refurbished adobe home of Raimundo Yorba and Fenton Slaughter!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This example of early California architecture was built in 1850-53 by Raimundo Yorba. Purchased in 1868 by Fenton Mercer Slaughter, it was preserved as a memorial to him by his daughter, Julia Slaughter Fuqua.

OTHER TIDBITS: The Yorbas were one of the wealthiest and most influential families in the Prado Basin, owning 78,000 acres of land between San Diego and Santa Ana, which they called, appropriately, Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana! The adobe was an optional stop along the Butterfield Overland Stage Route and in later years on the road between Fort Yuma and Los Angeles!

The Slaughters brought in cattle and fine race horses, even introducing Merino sheep to California! Under Slaughter leadership, this area became known as the Rincón, or the Corner!

This landmark is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places!
