Roncesvalles!

Roncesvalles
What is it? Roncesvalles is a tiny town at the feet of the Pyrenees and an important stopping point for Pilgrims who have just conquered the Route Napoleon!
What makes it historical? In the valley of Roncesvalles, in 778 AD, there was an ambush upon the rear guard of Charlemagne’s troops, led by his nephew, Roland! In all likelihood, this was an attack by angry Basque people seeking revenge on Roland’s troops for breaking a promise and sacking Pamplona. Regardless, this battle brought about Roland’s demise and one of history’s most famous poems, The Song of Roland!
