Sycamore Grove!

Sycamore Grove
Landmark #573 San Bernardino County Visited: November 17, 2012 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A private plaque on a tall, white monument!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Sycamore Valley ranch, formerly called Sycamore Grove, was first camp of the Mormon pioneers. Captain Jefferson Hunt, Amasa Lyman, Charles C. Rich, David Seely, and Andrew Lytle stopped here in June 1851.

OTHER TIDBITS: This is where 437 Mormon pioneers camped while they negotiated terms with the Lugo brothers to purchase Rancho San Bernardino! They succeeded, which is why there is such a strong Mormon influence in the city of San Bernardino!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with San Bernardino County Regional Parks!
  • Donate to the Native Daughters of the Golden West!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
