Posey Station of Butterfield Overland Mail Lines!

Posey Station of Butterfield Overland Mail Lines
Landmark #539 Kern County Visited: January 26, 2013 Plaque?  NO. 🙁
What is it? The base of a plundered plaque!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS:  Two and one-half miles east of this point stood the Posey Station on the Butterfield Overland Stage route that ran from St. Louis, Missouri through present-day Kern County to San Francisco during 1858-61, until the outbreak of the Civil War.

OTHER TIDBITS: Also known as the Posey Creek Station, this stage stop was ironically built on the site of a depot camp for the 1853 Pacific Railroad Survey! They went with the road, more than the rail!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West!
  • Donate to the Native Daughters of the Golden West!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
