Vallecito Stage Station
Landmark #304 San Diego County Visited: March 30, 2013 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? Vallecito Stage Station County Park!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: A reconstruction (1934) of Vallecito Stage Station built in 1852 at the edge of the Great Colorado Desert. It was an important stop on the first official transcontinental route, serving the San Diego-San Antonio (“Jackass”) mail line (1857-1859), the Butterfield Overland Stage Line, and the southern emigrant caravans.

OTHER TIDBITS: It cost passengers on this line $200 to make this 25-day trip!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Volunteer with San Diego County Parks!
  • Donate to the San Diego County Parks Society!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
