Cabrillo National Monument!

What Is Cabrillo National Monument!?

Cabrillo National Monument commemorates the tidepool-covered spot on Point Loma where Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo first landed in San Miguel, er, San Diego, Bay on September 28, 1542!

What Makes It Beautiful?

The tidepools are really the highlight of the monument, and you’ll notice by the crowds! Even at high tide, the layered cliffs are spectacular, especially in the late afternoon. At the same time, the sweeping views of San Diego Bay from the Point Loma Lighthouse are stupendous!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with the National Park Service!
  • Donate to the Cabrillo National Monument Foundation!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!

When Should I Visit the Park?

If you want to see the tide pools up close, check the San Diego tide calendar first! You will want to visit when the tide is in the negative zone, which is best in the winter months. Be sure to respect the tide pools! Touch if you must, but handle with care! The park closes before dark, so I don’t think you’ll have a chance to stand by the lighthouse at night.
