Site of the State Capitol at Vallejo!

Site of the State Capitol at Vallejo
Landmark #574 Solano County Visited: February 15, 2014 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque marking the site of the second location of California’s state capitol building!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Vallejo was the official seat of State government from February 4, 1851 to February 4, 1853.

OTHER TIDBITS: California’s state capitol moved three times between 1850 and 1854 before settling in Sacramento! This period became known as the “Capitol on Wheels” period and was fueled by a number of different factors! The legislature came to Vallejo from San Jose because the accommodations in San Jose were subpar, and General Mariano Vallejo made a sweet offer to set up a new capitol building in the town he founded! However, Vallejo was unable to provide legislators with the accommodations they needed, and they were quick to set out for a new location!
