Grave of Alexander Hamilton Willard!

Grave of Alexander Hamilton Willard
Landmark #657 Sacramento County Visited: April 4, 2015 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? It is, in fact, the grave of Alexander Hamilton Willard!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Willard, a native of New Hampshire who died March 6, 1865, was perhaps the last survivor of the exploring party sent out by President Jefferson under Captain Meriwether Lewis to discover the course and sources of the Missouri River.

OTHER TIDBITS: Alexander Hamilton Willard was 25 when he enlisted with the Corps of Discovery, led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark! Along their epic journey, he survived a close encounter with a grizzly bear, a mysterious illness, getting washed away twice in the Missouri River, rifle theft by Native Americans, and 100 lashes with a cat o’ nine tails for falling asleep at his post! He came to California with his family at the age of 74 and lived in this area until he was 86!
