Landmark #805 Alpine County Visited: July 12, 2015 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A collection of plaques outside Woodfords Station!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Woodfords became a remount station of the Pony Express on April 4, 1860, when Warren Upson scaled the mountains in a blinding snowstorm and made his way down the eastern slope of the Sierra on his way to Carson City. Five weeks later the Pony Express was rerouted by way of Echo Summit and Luther Pass.

OTHER TIDBITS: That pretty well sums it up!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Volunteer with the Alpine County Historical Society!
  • Become a member of the National Pony Express Association!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
