Blue Wing Inn!

Blue Wing Inn
Landmark #17 Sonoma County Visited: Sept. 5, 2015 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? The Blue Wing Inn is still preserved within Sonoma State Historic Park!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Erected by General M. G. Vallejo about 1840 to accommodate emigrants and other travelers, the Inn was purchased in gold rush days by Cooper and Spriggs, two retired seafaring men, and operated as hotel and store. It was among first hostelries in Northern California. Notable guests, according to local tradition, included John C. Frémont, U. S. Grant, Governor Pío Pico, Kit Carson, Fighting Joe Hooker, William T. Sherman, Phil Sheridan, and members of the Bear Flag Party.

OTHER TIDBITS: That pretty well sums it up!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with the Sonoma State Historic Park!
  • Become a member of Sonoma Petaluma Parks!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
