Old Emigrant Trail (Canby)!

Old Emigrant Trail, Canby
Landmark #111 Modoc County Visited: March 11, 2016 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A tiny little marker by a cattle guard!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Near the present Pit River-Happy Camp Road, this old pioneer trail, part of one of the earliest roads in northeastern California, is yet easily traced. Trees eight to ten inches in diameter are growing in the old road bed.

OTHER TIDBITS: This is part of the Lassen Trail, which branched off from the main trail near the modern Rye Patch Reservoir in Nevada to Goose Lake, then down along the Pit River into California’s Central Valley! It was rough and difficult, and many pioneers wished they hadn’t taken it!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of Emigrant Trails West, Inc.!
  • Become a member of Modoc County Historical Museum!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
