Temple of Hercules!

Temple of Hercules
What is it? The Temple of Hercules is a 2nd century Roman temple at the Amman Citadel!
What makes it historical? After Rome captured the city of Rabbath Ammon and renamed it Philadelphia in 63 BC, they set about giving the city a makeover in their own image. That included building over a temple to Moloch and replacing it with a lavish temple to their own hero, Hercules, around 160 AD! Though archaeologists speculate that this temple was never finished, at its height, it measured 100 feet long by 85 feet wide and housed a 43-foot marble statue of Hercules! Today, all that remains of the statue are three fingers, and the only clue to their owner is in the form of coins scattered about the ruins!
