Oregon State Capitol!

Oregon State Capitol

What Is the Oregon State Capitol?

It’s the Oregon State Capitol building!

What Makes It Historical?

After Oregon’s first statehouse burned down in 1935, the state government, in collaboration with the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, brought in New York architect, Francis Kearny, to design a new one! He designed a unique “Stripped Classical” capitol building in Vermont marble, which diverged from the old historical approaches that other states had taken to capitol buildings! Since this was built at the height of the Great Depression, it was a symbol of hope and stability in a super unstable time!
