Carnegie Institute Museum of Natural History

What Is the Carnegie Institute Museum of Natural History?

This museum is a treasure trove of fossils, minerals, and artifacts collected and brought to Pittsburgh since 1874!

What Makes It Wonderful?

See amazing fossils, including the first excavated Tyrannosaurus skeleton, the Apatosaurus that was Brontosaurus, and of course, the original Dippy the Diplodocus! With an expansive collection of gems and minerals, and a uniquely self aware collection of Egyptian and Native American artifacts, the Carnegie Institute Museum of Natural History rightfully bills itself as the world’s most relevant natural history museum!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh!
  • Become a member of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
