Plaque Text for Tennessee Landmark #141:
RCA Records established a recording studio in this building in November 1957, with local offices run by guitarist-producer Chet Atkins. Its success led to a larger studio, known as Studio A, built next door in 1964. Studio B recorded numerous hits by Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, Don Gibson, Charley Pride, Jim Reeves, Dolly Parton, and many others. Along with Bradley Studios, Studio B is known for developing “The Nashville Sound.”
More about RCA Studio B:
The Radio Corporation of America acquired Victor Talking Machine Co. in 1929 and with it their logo of a dog named Nipper staring at a phonograph! Nipper belonged to Francis Barraud, who painted a piece in memory her terrier mix in 1898 and offered it to Edison-Bell Company. They turned down His Master’s Voice because “dogs don’t listen to phonographs,” but the Victor Talking Machine Company adopted this now iconic dog logo!
