What Is the Old City Hall?
Today, this is the Whatcom Museum of History and Art!
What Makes It Historical?
In 1892, when this community was still known as Whatcom, this red brick Victorian building was constructed to be its city hall! It was a major milestone in drawing multiple small communities together around one city hall, an effort led by architect, Alfred Lee, who had come here in 1890! After the opening of the new city hall in 1939, this magnificent structure barely escaped the wrecking ball and today houses the Whatcom Museum of History and Art!
How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?
- Volunteer with the Whatcom County Historical Society!
- Become a member of the Whatcom Museum!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
