Landmark #539 | Kern County | Visited: January 26, 2013 | Plaque? NO. 🙁 |
What is it? | The base of a plundered plaque! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Two and one-half miles east of this point stood the Posey Station on the Butterfield Overland Stage route that ran from St. Louis, Missouri through present-day Kern County to San Francisco during 1858-61, until the outbreak of the Civil War.
OTHER TIDBITS: Also known as the Posey Creek Station, this stage stop was ironically built on the site of a depot camp for the 1853 Pacific Railroad Survey! They went with the road, more than the rail! |
