What is it? |
Monocacy National Battlefield was site of an often overlooked, but super important battle during the Civil War! |
What makes it historical? |
The battles at Monocacy were important for two main reasons: First, the plans for all Confederate movements got left behind, wrapped around two cigars, by Major General Daniel Hill and fell into the hands of the Union! Second, though the Confederates beat the Union Army in this battle, the outnumbered Union soldiers were able to hold them back long enough for reinforcements to arrive in Washingon, DC. That kept the nation’s capital out of the hands of the Confederacy! |
