The New York Historical Landmark program launched in 1926 to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Revolutionary War. It was run by the Department of Education’s State History Office, but after 2,825 landmarks were put in place, the program got discontinued! I hope they didn’t miss anything! Now, it’s up to the counties to decide what other landmarks get installed!
