Maryland became the 7th state of the Union on April 28, 1788! It’s named after Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of King Charles I of England, but you can also call it The Old Line State! Its capital is Annapolis, and its largest city is Baltimore! Maryland’s state motto is “Fatti maschii, parole femine,” which means “Manly deeds, womanly words!” This state is famous for blue crabs, Chesapeake Bay, Fort McHenry National Monument, the U.S.S. Constellation, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway, and Antietam National Battlefield!
