Montana became the 41st state of the Union on November 8, 1889! It’s named after the Spanish word montaña, which means “mountain,” but you can also call it The Treasure State! Its capital is Helena, and its largest city is Billings! Montana’s state motto is “Oro y Plata,” which means “Gold and Silver!” This state is famous for its majestic mountains and valleys, like in Glacier National Park, and as the site of the Battle of Little Bighorn!
