California’s state capitol wasn’t always located in Sacramento! In fact, from 1850 until 1874, California’s state capital moved from San Jose to Vallejo, Benicia, Sacramento, San Francisco, and then back to Sacramento, where its current majestic building stands today! This 24-year stretch became known as the “Capitol on Wheels” period!
