In the 1950s, zoologists, Bernard Heuvelmans and Ivan T. Sanderson, coined the new field of cryptozoology to study creatures known in anecdotes but not by science! These creatures, called cryptids, are hard to distinguish from myth, because most haven’t left behind any concrete evidence, but folks still report seeing them into modern times! Such cryptids include Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, the Jersey Devil, and plenty more, treading the fine line between history and folklore!
