Flatwoods Monster Museum

What Is the Flatwoods Monster Museum?

This tiny, one-room museum displays shelves upon shelves of memorabilia related to Braxxie, the Flatwoods Monster!

What Makes It Wonderful?

Though not quite as famous as its western neighbor, the Mothman, the Flatwoods Monster burst onto the scene September 12, 1952! A group of boys out playing spotted a bright red ball of light descending onto their neighbor’s farm, and when they gathered a group of friends to investigate, they were shocked by what they saw! A 10-foot tall creature loomed up, with a head shaped like an ace of spades, claws, glowing eyes, and a noxious, gassy smell! It hissed and glided at them, causing them to run away, but nothing was found of it since!

This museum keeps all kinds of related stuff on display, from artistic renderings of Braxxie to articles from that period to de-classified documents from Project BLUE BOOK, the Air Force program for investigating UFO sightings from 1947 to 1969! There is a video that talks about the sighting, plus a very small gift shop, and that’s about it. It’s a tiny museum that’s only been open since 2018, but there’s plenty of room to grow! When you visit, take some time to seek out the five Braxxie chairs around town, and you might win a prize!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Buy something from the online store!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
