Tag: Mountain Men
Mountain men were hunters and trappers who roamed the Rocky Mountains between 1810 and the late 1880s! Some were independent while others were employed by large companies, but what they all had in common was the trapping and killing of beavers and other fur-bearing critters like us to meet the fashion demands of the East Coast and Europe! Known for setting up forts, blazing trails like the Oregon Trail, and holding epic, annual gatherings called Rendezvous, mountain men like Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, and Jedediah Smith have trapped a place in American history and folklore as symbols of freedom and adventure!
