New York County, New York was established on November 1, 1683 and named for the Duke of Albany and York (future King James II) after the English took control of the area from the Dutch! This county is too small to have a seat or fair; it’s just the part of New York City that we call Manhattan! You might recognize Wall Street, the United Nations, Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building, and so many more places that are located in this county!
