Plumas County, California was established in 1854 and named for the Feather River, called the Rio de las Plumas by John Marsh and José Noriega, who found a place on the river where the water was covered in feathers! “Plumas” is the Spanish word for “feathers!” Its county seat is Quincy, and its fair is also held in Quincy! You might recognize Plumas-Eureka State Park, the Western Pacific Railroad Museum, and Beckwourth Pass, which are located in this county!
