What is it? A monument marking the original location of the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: ‘Mission Vieja,’ Old Mission, was the name given to the first buildings erected, and later abandoned, by the fathers for Mission San Gabriel Arcángel. The permanent buildings for the mission were located about five miles distant.

  1. According to the Montebello Historical Society, Mr. Temple had this marker placed on his land, but the actual location of the Old Mission was near the river, to the east.
