Casa de Carrión!

La Casa de Carrión
Landmark #386 Los Angeles County Visited: Sept. 25, 2011 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? The restored adobe of Saturnino Carrión!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This house, built in 1868 by Saturnino Carrión, was restored in 1951 by Paul E. Traweek.

OTHER TIDBITS: Saturnino Carrión inherited 300 acres of Rancho San Jose Arriba, where he raised cattle. He was known as a strange fellow who had a black horse that he named “Horse.” After moving his herds on account of a major drought, he had an Italian architect design his permanent home by a regular water source. Unfortunately, this water source became a coveted location for the Puddingstone Dam! Now, it’s a private residence!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the Pomona Historical Society!
  • Donate to the Pomona Historical Society!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
Where is this place? LISTED DIRECTIONS:
919 Puddingstone Dr
La Verne, CA 91750

ANNOTATIONS:
Yup! That’s correct!

From Los Angeles: ~30mi (49km) — 0.5hrs
From Sacramento: ~408mi (657km) — 6.8hrs
From San Diego: ~120mi (194km) — 2hrs

When should I go? This is a private residence, but the owners are super nice! I hear the house opens to the public a few times a year, but I’m not sure. I happened to pass by while the owner was doing yardwork, and he let me in.
