The End of El Camino Real!

El Camino Real
Landmark #784-2 San Francisco County Visited: November 16, 2013 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque marking the end of Father Serra’s mission-building Camino Real (Royal Way) from San Diego to San Francisco!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This plaque was placed on the 250th anniversary of the birth of California’s apostle, Padre Junípero Serra, OFM, to mark El Camino Real as he knew it and helped blaze it.

OTHER TIDBITS: Missions were constructed to be a day’s walk apart on El Camino Real! That ensured rapid exchange of supplies and reinforcement in case of trouble! Basically, if you were to walk the entirety of El Camino Real, as Padre Serra knew it and helped blaze it, you could walk from San Diego to San Francisco in 21 days!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with Mission Dolores!
  • Donate to Mission Dolores!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
