El Camino Real, San Diego!

El Camino Real
Landmark #784 San Diego County Visited: April 21, 2013 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque marking the start of El Camino Real, connecting the 21 missions of California!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This plaque was placed on the 250th anniversary of the birth of California’s apostle, Padre Junípero Serra, OFM, to mark El Camino Real as he knew it and helped blaze it.

OTHER TIDBITS: Missions were constructed to be a day’s walk apart on El Camino Real! That ensured rapid exchange of supplies and reinforcement in case of trouble! Basically, if you were to walk the entirety of El Camino Real, as Padre Serra knew it and helped blaze it, you could walk from San Diego to San Francisco in 21 days! See where it ended here!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the E Clampus Vitus, Squibob Chapter!
  • Donate to the Diocese of San Diego!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
