| What is it? | A plaque at the entrance to the Weber Point Event Center! |
| What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Site of a two-story adobe-and-redwood house built in 1850 by Charles M. Weber, founder and pioneer developer of Stockton. One of the first elaborate residences and landscaped gardens in the San Joaquin Valley, it remained Captain Weber’s home until his death in 1881.
OTHER TIDBITS: Charles M. Weber was born in Germany and came to California in 1842. Joining forces with William Gulnac, he invested in settling the Rancho del Campo de los Franceses, creating Stockton to be the gateway to the gold mines in the Sierra. Stockton was the first community in California to have an English name! |
