This high-end fashion store is actually the work of Berlin art duo, Elmgreen and Dragset! With the blessing of Miuccia Prada herself and $80,000 worth of shoes and handbags from her fall/winter collection, Prada Marfa “opened” for the first time exactly 13 years ago today (October 1, 2005)!
The whole idea behind Prada Marfa was to build it and leave it to the elements to show that even these fancy, expensive items would eventually dissolve into the landscape! Since a couple of vandals smashed windows and painted it up, though, various organizations have stepped in to keep it from degrading. We’ll see how long it lasts in the wild, West Texas desert! |
