Equality House

What Is Equality House?

This is the rainbow-colored headquarters of global nonprofit, Planting Peace!

What Makes It Wonderful?

On one level, this house is vibrant and lovely, with positive affirmations scrawled by visitors on the northern wall! Featuring all the colors of the rainbow, plus the adjacent Mott House with the transgender pride flag and a reminder that Black Lives Matter, it’s a visual symbol that all are welcome. Since 2013, it’s also directly across from the Westboro Baptist Church, known for their monomaniacal loathing of gay folks!

But trolling bigots isn’t all that makes this house wonderful! In fact, Planting Peace isn’t only an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights! They also plant trees, buy rainforest land to preserve, rid kids of intestinal parasites, and house orphans in India and Haiti as well as refugees from Ukraine! Regularly picking up new environmental and humanitarian projects, this is one scrappy group of peacemakers, both practically and symbolically!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Become a member of Planting Peace!
  • Donate to Planting Peace!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
