Black River Gorges National Park!

Black River Gorges National Park

What Is Black River Gorges National Park?

It’s Mauritius’ largest national park, preserving the landforms and ecosystems carved by the Rivière Noire!

What Makes It Beautiful?

A hike in Black River Gorges National Park can take you through whole ecosystems, from tropical rainforest in the east to dry lowland forest in the west, as you go up and down breathtaking cliffs and look out over far-reaching ocean views! It’s hot and humid, but you may just get lucky and spot one of Mauritius’ rare endemic birds, like the Mauritian kestrel or pink pigeon, which are released from captivity at Le Pétrin Information Centre! Or if hiking through the lush, often muddy jungle isn’t your thing, have a peaceful picnic at one of the visitor centers and absorb the unique environment of this amazing island!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Donate to the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!

How Do I Get There?

I visited via Le Pétrin Information Center
E of the intersection of B102 and B88

When Should I Visit the Park?

The park is open daily from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM, while Le Pétrin Information Centre is open weekdays from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Saturdays to 5:00 PM, closed Sundays!
