| What is it? | The Berkeley City Club Hotel, as built by famed architect, Julia Morgan! |
| What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: The Berkeley City Club was organized by women in 1927 to contribute to social, civic, and cultural progress. The building, constructed in 1929, is one of the outstanding works of noted California architect Julia Morgan, whose interpretation of Moorish and Gothic elements created a landmark of California design.
OTHER TIDBITS: Julia Morgan was a woman on a mission! Rather than get married in her 20s, as was common at the time, she enrolled at UC Berkeley and graduated as the only woman in her class! She was also the first woman ever admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and with a Master’s Degree in tow, she was in a prime position to flourish after the 1906 Earthquake leveled the architecture of San Francisco!
