Are you safer at home, everyone?!

Today, I went out to see the effects of Los Angeles’ new “Safer at Home” order, which shut down most businesses and ordered folks not to leave their houses except for essential activities! Being a beaver, I wasn’t too worried about catching or spreading COVID-19, but I planned to keep my distance from anyone and everyone that I could see. Luckily, that didn’t take much effort!

Normally at this time of year, the Hollywood Walk of Fame is jam-packed with buses, vans, and throngs of spring break tourists! But today, a Friday, there were maybe ten people between Highland and La Brea! I saw two down-on-their-luck buskers, both dressed as the Joker. (I guess the joke’s on them!) That was it!

The mall area, usually so full of shoppers, was barricaded off and completely empty! In all the years I’ve been out here, even in the early hours when I visited with Mom in 2017, I’ve never seen these halls so clear! It was really eerie!

Since it was Friday and normally rush hour, I wanted to see how the closures were affecting LA’s famous traffic! I went to the 101 overlook on Vermont Avenue, and whoa… Whoa! WHOA! By this time, this would normally be nonstop tail lights, especially heading toward downtown! A few cars passed here and there, but beyond that, I’d never seen the 101 Freeway clearer! On the bright side, this’ll do wonders for our normally smoggy air!

There was one more location I wanted to see while history was in the making, and that was the stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard between Palm Avenue and San Vicente, the most successful collection of bars and nightclubs in the whole United States!

It was empty here too! The lights were on, but no one was home! The doors were closed, no music blasted into the streets, and the outdoor patios were completely empty! Apart from the occasional jogger or dog walker, there was no one to be found on these normally bustling sidewalks!

I felt kind of nervous out here in these dark and empty streets. Maybe there was some kind of COVID Zombie that no one had discovered until now! Would my Five Deadly Arts be enough to stop one? I didn’t want to find out, so I got the heck out of here. Maybe I really am safer at home!

See you iso-later!
